I do not suffer from depression now, but I did many years ago. I was raised by my dear mother who suffered from quite severe and regular depression. As a result, I myself suffered from it regularely throughout my late teens and early twenties.
However, in my mid twenties I learned about positive thinking and began working for people who had mastered the art of consciously becoming aware each and every time they had a negative thought, and how to effectively change it into a truthful and sincere positive thought, in such a way as to eventually transform their subconscious mind to think only positive thoughts as much as possible.
These people I worked for were very successful and happy. The first one was a long time salesman who was happily married and had built up a small fortune for himself buying income-producing properties and renting them out. The second was a retired professional Football player who was one of the all time best receivers for the NFL. He then went on to be a public speaker and teach people the art of changing the way they think. What he taught me in the mid eighties, stopped my depression and it has never came back. And I had suffered from it for a solid decade up to that time!
I have suffered from insomnia though for about 20 years before beginning meditation. As this runs in my family I thought that I would have it all my life. But about three months after beginning a dedicated twice-daily meditation practice, my insomnia miraculously disappeared!
