A closer walk with God

Hi, as the new year begin I would like a closer walk with God and for me to do that, I know I need to spend more time with God by meditating on His word; if i do that I know I won't be easily moved by trials and disappointments. I want to be lead by the Spirit and not my emotions which gets me to act in a haste without getting God's perspective.
